Who can attend the Prom?
The Prom is open to anyone age 14 years or older enrolled in 9th to 12th grade who is either a homeschool student, a virtual school student or a homeschool alumni.
Can my 14 year old who is in the 8th grade, but taking some 9th grade classes be allowed to attend?
No, they are still in 8th grade and this prom is a special event for high school students and is not intended for junior high/middle school students. In the past, we have had parents falsify their child’s age and grade in order for their child to attend. They will have four years in which to attend after they become high school students. As home school parents, we cherish and teach honesty and integrity. We hope as a parent, you will to.
Can someone who is not a homeschool student, a virtual school student or a homeschool alumni attend Prom?
Yes, as long as he or she is at least 14 years of age, meets the grade requirement, and is accompanied by a homeschooled student, a virtual schooled student, or a home schooled alumnus. These individuals are referred to as “Guests” and must also adhere to all requirements of the dress code and conduct.
Do you have to be a member of any particular homeschool group or organization to attend the Prom?
No. The prom is open to all homeschool students, virtual school students, and homeschool alumni, no matter what group or school they are associated with.
Is the Prom a formal event?
Yes, this is a formal event. There is a dress code that must be adhered to.
So, what is the dress code?
This is a formal event. Dress code:
Coat & Tie for young men.
Formal Dresses for young ladies.
No exceptions.
Tennis shoes, flip-flops, jeans and t-shirts will not be allowed at this event and if the attendee arrives at the door and it is determined they are inappropriately dressed, they will be asked to return to the Prom when they have made the appropriate changes to their attire. The decision of appropriateness is left to the sole discretion of the Prom committee. If an attendee is asked to leave and return because of the dress code and their decision is to not return, there will not be a refund of Prom fees.
Will there be a photographer available at the Prom?
Yes. A professional photographer will be taking pictures that will be available to purchase on the internet at a later date. The details of how to retrieve and purchase photos will be made available to everyone at the Prom.
Is a meal provided during Prom?
Yes. The ticket price includes a buffet dinner featuring Oven Roasted Sirloin, Chicken Marsala and Shrimp Alfredo & Scallop Pasta, with salads, vegetables, desserts and drinks.
What kind of music is played during Prom?
All kinds of music... including Pop, Country, Classic, Swing, Line, Golden Oldies, and other genres. The music will be reviewed for appropriate lyrics.
Are there adult chaperones at the Prom?
Yes. Chaperones are selected from among the adult volunteers at the sole discretion of the Prom committee. Chaperones have been selected and contacted very early in the planning process. A request can be made to be a chaperone but typically they have already been identified and confirmed months before to make sure their calendars are clear and a firm commitment established.
Are parents of the homeschoolers allowed at the Prom or in the dining/dance hall.
Parents will not be allowed into the Ballroom/dining area of the prom.
Do most students come alone or with someone else?
The purpose of the night is to make it memorable and to have fun. Some teens arrive at Prom alone, with an escort, or even in groups. This is left up to the individual.
Can I reserve a table so my friends and I can sit together?
No. The seating is on a first come first pick basis. We also request that chairs are not to be moved from one table to another as this causes issues for the servers and may possibly violate fire safety regulations.
Are attendees allowed to come and go as they please or wander?
No. If an attendee needs to return to the car for whatever reason, a Chaperone will escort them. Once an attendee or attendees leave the prom, they are not allowed to return since it is out of the control of the Prom committee and Chaperones as to what occurs while off site.
Is there a good hotel we can stay at?
Tampa Bay has a lot of great hotels nearby. Searching the internet for Rocky Point, Tampa Florida will give you an idea of hotels close to the Prom location. There is a Doubletree hotel on the net at doubletreetampabay.com This is probably one of the closest and most convenient.
What is the policy on drugs, alcohol and cigarettes?
The Prom has a ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY. Anyone suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or any drug will be removed from the Prom area and their parents will be contacted. The registration fee will not be refunded. Cigarette smoking is not allowed and no one can bring drinks of any kind, including water, soda, power drinks, etc., to Prom.
It is our intent to provide a memorable and fun Prom for all attendees. The conduct of the attendees is always of a concern and chaperones meet prior to the Prom to receive training in the handling of various situations that may arise from the conduct of the attendees. In the past we have not had any issues that caused anyone to be removed from the Prom and we are thankful for the respect of the attendees to adhere to dress codes and conduct.
